First Presbyterian is located at 124 W. Broadway Street just one block west of the Shelby County Library and the city fire hall.
Where do I park?
There is plenty of curb-side parking around the church. For those who have trouble walking, we have a few spots off the alley which runs to the east of the building. The city lot to the north is where most of our mobile members park. For those wishing to use the elevator, there is a driveway off the alley on the north side of the building which will take you to the main floor then down the hall to the rear of the worship center. When you enter from the alley door you will see stairs which take you up to the main floor and down a few turns in the hallway to the rear entrance to the worship center. If you park on Broadway Street you will enter into one of the original set of doors to the worship center which is down a short hall. If you have trouble negotiating the hallway to the worship center please ask for help from one of our Deacons who should be standing near one of the doors.
What should I wear?
While some like to dress in their “Sunday best,” most subscribe to the idea that one should “come as you are.” However you are dressed, we encourage you to be comfortable.
What is your worship service like?
We have one service for all at 10:00 AM on Sunday morning. It is a “blended service” with a set order each week, traditional hymns, a choral anthem, with teaching and sermon based on scripture. Mixed in with traditional music are some more contemporary songs and a personal time of sharing our joys and concerns for our church family and friends. Songs are played on the organ or piano. We also include a children’s moment before they go to their Sunday School time.
Is there a Sunday School time?
We offer a variety of Christian Education experiences for adults through our Small Groups which run at various times during the year and week. Check out our small groups through the Connect Adults Small Groups link.
Other adult groups are the CCC for those who are 55 years and older. They go to lunch or attend special events at various places in the Shelby county area and meet once a month. Checkout this month’s calendar in the Spirt for their next gathering place.
For knitters and crocheters we have a Prayer Shawl ministry which meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 1:00 PM.
Children and youth have Sunday School time after the Children’s Moment on Sunday mornings. On Wednesday evening we have a High School group which meets from 6:00 to 7:30 with a full meal served at 6:45 PM.
Do you have a choir?
We have a choir which meets Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM in the Choir Room. They sing from September after Labor Day through Memorial Day weekend. During the summer we have special music for each worship service with guest performers, church members and outside groups with various sounds and styles of music. See our calendar for the month to see who is doing our music each week.
